PYSC Curriculum
At Pittsburg Youth Soccer Club, our training sessions cover a range of soccer’s physical, technical, and tactical elements. Our coaching methodology aligns with US Soccer’s “Strategic Pillars”, “Core Philosophies”, and “US Soccer’s Curriculum” (by Director Claudio Reyna & Author Javier Perez) from grassroots to our U21 teams. Our mindset is “If we play soccer in the United States, we must teach its curriculum”. Of course, we are not robots, we believe that each team will form a personal identity through the fluid nature of the “beautiful game” we all love!
Coaches will follow a seasonal plan that meets age-specific requirements for each player within the team environment. As the teams progress and players grow they will follow the curriculum that pertains to the current age and stage of the team. Implement hard work, discipline, and focus. Follow our motto “Train Hard, Play Hard” and remember “The way we practice is the way we play; so truly TRAIN HARD”
US Soccer Curriculum: by Director Claudio Reyna & Author Javier Perez
Each practice is structured as follows:
- Warm-up (Physical): Variations of ball control, dynamic movement, body movement, fun and dynamic games, coordination, agility, balance, speed. This focuses on ACTIVATION. Get the team mentally focused and ACTIVATED to have a proper training session.
- Main activity: Both technical and tactical activities with and without pressure on a specific topic/coaching point. Activities and small-sided games designed to teach the fundamentals of soccer that enhance the player’s soccer IQ and allow players to make decisions that translate into a game.
- Scrimmage: Open play with minimal coaching to allow the players to make their own decisions and implement the topics of the day. Encourage mistakes, quick coaching points (correct), and allow players to correct the mistake. We learn from our mistakes and mistakes do not define us.
Age Group Organization:
To properly ensure the development of a player, we follow US Soccer’s 4 Stages of Player Development; Initial Stage: U6-U8, Basic Stage: U9-U12, Intermediate Stage: U13-U14, Advanced Stage: U15-U18, Specific Stage: U19-20, Performance: Senior (PYSC’s U21).
